In the “Peaceful Practices” Chapter of the Lotus Sutra, the Buddha instructs bodhisattvas on how to propagate the Law after his passing. What do President Ikeda and the study leaders say about shakubuku in the Latter Day of the Law? What can we learn from the parable of the priceless gem in the topknot? (WLS-3, pp. 186-190)

Discussion question: In this section of the Wisdom of the Lotus Sutra Vol. 3, President Ikeda states: “A youth once asked President Makiguchi how one could develop the ability to judge good and evil. President Makiguchi replied: ‘If you have the tenacity and courage to practice the world’s foremost religion, you will come to understand’” (150). How can we, by “practicing the world’s foremost religion,” develop our own abilities to judge good and evil? How can we apply this to our daily lives?

In this section of The Wisdom of the Lotus Sutra Vol. 3, the dragon girl makes the vow to “unfold the doctrines of the Great Vehicle [of the Lotus Sutra] to rescue living beings from suffering” (WLS-3, 97). In modern terms, how can we apply this vow to our daily lives?
