Ikeda Wisdom Academy is an SGI-USA Youth Division movement to engage all youth leaders in advanced study. From March 2013, academy members will study The Wisdom of the Lotus Sutra series to deepen their understanding of practicing Nichiren Buddhism.
Two local academy meetings will be held each month to study the series with fellow academy members, accompanied by video overviews as support material for each meeting. The aim of the study meetings is to carry out study-based discussion brimming with the spirit to carry out kosen-rufu!
The goal of the academy is to raise young leaders to battle the tides of hopelessness and despair that pervade our society into one of hope and purpose. The movement aims to help youth leaders deepen understanding of the oneness of mentor and disciple, develop confidence in sharing Buddhism with others, and conviction in the mission of the SGI through a correct understanding of Nichiren Buddhism.
President Ikeda directs us to the best tool to empower youth in society by sharing the wisdom contained in the Lotus Sutra as he states, “The Lotus Sutra teaches of the great hidden treasure of the heart, as vast as the universe itself, which dispels any feelings of powerlessness. It teaches a dynamic way of living in which we breathe the immense life of the universe itself. It teaches the true great adventure of self-reformation” (WLS-1, p. 14).
Here’s the schedule of material to read for the academy meetings by month. Read up before your meetings so you’re fully prepared to discuss the material at the academy!
